Q & A
Do you and Adam plan on leaving Minnesota when football is over or too far in the future?
I would say as of now we would not leave Minnesota after Adam's football career is over. If Adam wasn't playing football I believe we would still live here because we love it and have both lived here most our lives. We think it's a great place to raise a family!
If Adam couldn’t play for the Vikings which team would you want him to play for?
I would have to say the Green Bay Packers (I know many of you may not like me for saying that lol but I have to answer truthfully). As I have said in another post.. I grew up a huge Packers fan idolizing Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. Also, I have a lot of family members that still live in WI so I think it would be fun to be closer to them and have them come out to games. I mean who wouldn't want Aaron Rodgers throwing to them. I could really see Adam and Aaron becoming quite the duo...obvioulsy it's gonna happen here in MINNY with Kirk;) Growing up a Packers fan was so fun and I still am in the process of fully converting my brothers to the Vikings lol! Don't worry everyone I love living in Minnesota and am a Vikings fan now but just had to give an honest answer:)
How many kids do you and Adam want?
Originally before we had Asher, Adam wanted like 5 or 6 kids...a starting basketball team lol. After having one he realized it's a lot more work and has come down to 3. I think we want 3 or 4...if it's in God's plans:)
What made you first attracted to Adam?
For the the first year or two after Adam add I met I was not into him. He would always text me and what not and I would text back but I definitely wasn't into him like he was (plus I was at Iowa State and he was at Mankato). You also have to know that I was very very picky when choosing who to date. I only have had one BF before him and I didn't just date to date. I would make excuses to my friends about Adam...like oh his laugh annoys me or something dumb like that. But there was just something about him that kept me texting back and kept him in the back of my mind...until I finally gave in and hung out with him (of course made my friends tag along the first couple times lol). When I actually took the time to hang out with him and get to know him I'd say the first thing that attracted me was his looks obviously... but mostly his values. They were very similar to mine and I could tell he was a hard worker, which I loved!
How does it feel to be an NFL player's wife?
Honestly, being an "NFL players wife" is not the title I want. I am Adam's wife. I am just a regular wife and mom like anyone else. We have exciting times and we have tough times like everyone. Obviously with my husband being a professional athlete it is a little different at times. I grew up with two older brothers and in a sports loving family so I have always enjoyed watching football. I love having Adam play in the NFL but at times also hate it. It's been so fun being able to go to games on Sundays and see your best friend and love getting to do what he loves. Seeing him run around with that jersey on and our last name on the back means so much to him, me, and our families. Also with Adam being an NFL player we do get to attend some fun events that most people can't. The biggest down side of him being an athlete is the injury aspect. Seeing my husband take big hits like he does just kills me. It's so scary knowing that one little hit or anything could end his career...and most importantly affect his life and our families life now or in the future. We just want to use the platform God has given us both to spread love, give back, and be the best people we can in the public eye!
What kinds of things do you do to still make sure Adam and Asher spend time together during the football season?
During the season it's definitely a lot harder for Asher and Adam to hang out just them two. Luckily Adam has every Tuesday off so we will either do something together as a family or a lot of times since Adam is so tired we will just hang around the house. Tuesdays are also the days I can get out alone and run an errand or two..and that way Adam can hang out with Asher just them two. Otherwise Adam usually gets home most nights by 5 or 6 so he has a couple hours with Asher before he goes to bed. When Adam is home for bed time it's usually his job to bring him up to bed and say good night prayers together. It's a lot tougher during the season for Adam and Asher to get that quality time and even for our family to do much together because Adam is usually so mentally and physically exhausted, but even if we are all just hanging out at home coloring or watching a show that's good enough for us!
What did you major in?/ Have you worked?
My degree is in Communication Disorders. Out of college I got accepted into the Speech Pathology program at River Falls and Minnesota State Mankato. I was still in limbo whether Speech therapy was the right fit for me so I chose to hold off on Grad school and not spend all that money, especially if it wasn't something I for sure wanted to do for the rest of my life. Also, during this time Adam and I were engaged and Adam was currently on the Vikings. And at that time we weren't really sure if Adam would stay with the Vikings or go to another team or what would happen. I wanted to be there 100 percent for him and not miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity. During that year I nannied four little girls and had weekend's off. I still kept very busy and was also planning our wedding. I got to experience so much with Adam that year so I am happy with the decision I made and have not regretted it. The first year of our marriage I was a substitute teacher k-12 grade. I loved it because I've always loved kids and it was super flexible... which I needed with Adam's schedule. What most people don't realize is that for professional athlete's significant other's it's hard to have a steady job living this life. Your husband could be on a team for months and then all of a sudden be traded halfway across the US. Or you could be on the same team for a couple years and think you have stability in that state and then all of a sudden your husband gets cut and you have to figure out where you both are going next. It's obviously doable to have a job but a lot of times it helps if they are flexible/ work from home type jobs. I am so blessed to be able to be a SAHM (stay at home mom) now. We are also part owners of two ETS elite gyms in MN so in the next few years I'm hoping to get more involved with those! My mom was a SAHM and growing up and I always wanted to do the same if our family was able. It is a lot more work than I thought but it's such a gift to be able to do it.
What are some good Christian books/devotionals you've read?
I love all Karen Kingsbury books. All her books and sequels are soooo good! I just can't put them down. The messages in her books are so great and I end up in tears most the time (just ask Adam because anytime we are flying and I'm reading them I get chocked up lol). Heaven is for Real (there's also a movie) by Todd Burpo is a really good book too. Makes you think a lot and brought me to goosebumps. Jesus Calling by Sarah Young is a great daily devotional. It shares a great message each day along with scripture.
When out in public, what do you prefer people do when they recognize you or Adam? Would you rather they stay away or are you ok if they come up and talk to you?
Good question! More and more people have started coming up to Adam as the years he's been on the Vikings goes up. If we are out to eat as a family or Adam and I are on a date night we'd prefer if people didn't come up to us. Obviously Adam/I love the support but sometimes the eye staring when we are out can be a bit much. Adam is so good about giving autographs and getting his picture taken but there is a time and a place for that. It probably bugs me more than it even does Adam just because we really are just a normal family trying to do normal family things. Adam tries to blend in as much as he can and we love when we can go out as a family and not get interrupted for a picture. Adam has autograph singings quite often plus training camp this year so I say try and wait for one of those:)
From someone who recently tore their ACL like I did- Do you have any tips/ suggestions for coming back to a sport after an injury or even just a normal workout?
Finding a good PT, staying focused, and sticking to your rehab plan is huge! Luckily my PT was great and got me started right away after surgery and I was very disciplined in my rehab. If they give you exercises to do on your own or at home, do them! I know some days it's super tough but I promise if you stick with it and do it properly it will help big time in the sport your returning to or just being active in the future!
That was so fun answering some of the top asked Q's! I'm so glad I could be real and honest and share some more about my life with you all. Everyone's life looks different and that's ok. God made you the way you are and gave you the life you have for a reason, you just need to make the most of it!
I love this quote below because not everyday is easy but every day is a blessing and you just gotta keep moving forward!
"A strong women loves, forgives, walks away, lets go, tries again, and perseveres..no matter what life throws at her."
